Clos Dubreuil

A visionary viewpoint

The discovery of Clos Dubreuil in 2002 was a revelation, a budding love for a terroir, a landscape, vineyards and above all, a wine with extraordinary potential.

The Trocard family

In the 17th century, the members of the Trocard family were winegrowers who did mixed farming and raised livestock on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. After realizing the soil’s potential, they gradually transformed grain fields into vineyards and specialized. The family now manages over 240 acres of vineyards under various appellations such as Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol and Saint-Émilion Grand Cru.

A REVELATION

When Benoît Trocard bought Clos Dubreuil’s 3.5 acres in 2002, he set a goal to make a wine that would be one of the best in the world. Such an ambition requires dedicating one’s life to the nectar, being both self-confident and humble when it comes to the vines. This means observing them daily, one cluster after another. The estate has expanded over the years with the addition of similar additional plots to make the wine more complex and to take the quest for exceptional quality even further. The vineyards currently cover over 21 acres. This development was made possible thanks to his partnership with Ralph Eads, whom he met during a wine tasting in Houston in 2005. The Texan businessman is a fine wine connoisseur and especially a major collector. When he tasted the 2004 vintage from the barrel, he fell under its spell and decided to help Benoit make his dream come true.
